John Hooper qualified with an LLB from Otago University in New Zealand in 1980.
He spent three years as a young barrister and developed a speciality in Family Law. He practiced mainly in the Family Courts and was involved in financial claims and children’s cases including a successful contested Custody Appeal to the High Court.
He was admitted as an English solicitor in 1987 and worked for six years in London as a Specialist Divorce and Family Lawyer. He worked initially in East London and then moved to the City. The emphasis was on high net worth cases involving both UK and non-UK nationals.
In 1992, he moved to Nottingham and worked as a Specialist Family Lawyer and practiced in the Family Courts of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. He prepared and presented cases principally involving financial disputes between divorcing spouses and separating cohabitees. He is a member of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association).
In 1995 he set up John Hooper and Company. The firm is now recognised as one of the premier family law practices in the Midlands and its ambition is to be the top family law practice in the country.
